Emirates Airline and Lufthansa Systems today announced that they are taking a major step towards the paperless cockpit. The Dubai-based carrier will be using Lido Route- Manual, the navigation chart solution from Lufthansa Systems, effective spring 2008.
In the first phase, Emirates will start using Lido RouteManual paper navigation charts. These cover all flight phases from push-back to arrival. Meanwhile, the implementation of Lido eRouteManual electronic charts will be started as a Class I solution based on laptop computers.
This will later be changed to an integrated Class II system, featuring the complete application including airport charts. As a unique feature, the solution will also include Moving- Map, the Lufthansa Systems enroute chart displaying the aircraft’s actual position.
"Our objective is to introduce and maximise the use of digital data onboard the aircraft and progressively phase out the paper document," said Adel Al Redha, executive vice president engineering and operations at Emirates.
