FedEx Express has launched a new day-definite, door-to-door service for less urgent shipments. Released in Australia and New Zealand and eight other Asia-Pacific markets, the new service called FedEx International Economy (FIE) features a transit time around one to two days longer than premium services.
FedEx is targeting the small-to medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) for the new delivery service. The Asia Pacific market has the largest concentration of SMEs world-wide.
The new service was specially designed for customers with less urgent shipments of individual packages under 68kg. No weight restrictions applied for multi-piece shipments and the service was backed by a money-back guarantee.
FIE typically delivers intra- Asia packages in two business days, and shipments to the US and major markets in Europe typically in three to four business days.
"We believe there is a clear demand for a service that lies between our premium International Priority express service and the regular postal service," said David L. Cunningham Jr., president, FedEx Express Asia Pacific. "Our International Economy service meets that need for customers, and at the same time broadens the portfolio of shipping options that we off er."
FedEx International Economy service is now available in 10 APAC markets including: Australia, New Zealand, mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. It will be available in March in Indonesia, the Philippines andVietnam.
